The occurrence of low quality fuel
During planned and regular manufacturer maintenance, an increasing number of incidents of impurities in the fuel system have been identified. The impurities which have been discovered have
clogged the fuel filters, and could lead to the engine being cut off. We have found that the cause of the impurities is due to fueling with low quality fuel, which probably contains a higher proportion of biofuel.
TL-ULTRALIGHT recommends a thorough inspection of the cleanliness of the fuel system, especially the gascolator filter screen located on the engine bulkhead. If the gascolator filter shows signs of pollution, it is necessary to check and clean the entire fuel system of the aircraft.
TL-ULTRALIGHT warns of the dangers of refueling from sources which do not guarantee the prescribed fuel quality.
TL-ULTRALIGHT highlights that it is the duty of the pilot to check the fuel system, including the drain, before each takeoff. We recommend to check the gascolator filter screen at the same time.
